Charlottesville Office

Freeman’s team in Charlottesville is a seasoned staff with an in depth knowledge of all aspects of the auction business, providing a wide range of services to the Southeast.

With the strength of our Philadelphia departments, they have built on a foundation of specialized knowledge and offer the full gamut of auction services: accurate and competitive cataloging, including pre-sale estimates and reserves; extensive research of property and market trends; in-house photography; catalogues; single-owner auctions; and a commitment to both consignors and buyers to provide seamless client service throughout the process. Our appraisal services include verbal auction estimates free of charge as well as formal fair market valuations for a variety of needs, including estate planning, estate tax, charitable donations, gift tax, insurance and retail replacement.

Since opening Freeman’s first regional office in 2004, Colin Clarke has been instrumental in the success of some of the most significant collections from Palm Beach to New York, setting auction records and achieving multi-million dollar results for his clients. He has over three decades of art business expertise, ranging from his first post as a restorer for the Royal Collection, to that of a founding member of several private dealer partnerships, including Knightsbridge Fine Art in New York City, specializing in 18th and 19th-century fine art. Colin’s extensive knowledge and unique skills continue to bring many noteworthy private collections and consignors to Freeman’s. Holen Miles Lewis joined Freeman’s in March of 2012 as Director of Business Development for the Mid-Atlantic. Prior to Freeman’s, Holen worked at Christie’s in New York City as Vice President in their Trusts and Estates Department, developing and managing relationships with high net-worth and international clients, as well as with major fiduciaries. Her extensive experience ranges from generalist appraisal training and benefit auctioneering, to working directly in the office of Christie’s Chairman.
