Estate of William R. Frazier Jr. Auction Benefits Fox Chase Cancer Center
Freeman's May 29th sale of property from the Estate of William R. Frazier, Jr., sold to primarily benefit Fox Chase Cancer Center, saw good results with only 15 lots going unsold and the majority achieving hammer prices above estimate. The collection, which contained a large quantity of European bronzes and porcelain, made a final result of $410,625, and even with the last minute withdrawal of 60 lots of primarily Meissen porcelain, buyers responded favorably with active bidding.
Top lot of the day was a Louis XV style gilt and painted bronze centerpiece which had interest both in the room and on the phones, eventually going to a phone bidder for $8,750 (with buyer's premium) against a conservative estimate of $2,500-3,500. Another bronze after Clodion and titled 'The Abduction' sold for $8,125, also with an estimate of $2,500-3,500. The top porcelain lot was a pair of Vienna covered urns-on-stand decorated with classical scenes against a pale blue ground which sold to the room for $6,875 against an estimate of 3,000-5,000.
Of the 20 paintings offered, the top lot of the day was an oil on canvas by Henri Louis Dupray (French, 1841-1909) of a cavalry regiment which sold for $4,062 on an estimate of $2,000-3,000.
Additional paintings from the Frazier collection will be included in Freeman's June 21st Fine American & European Paintings sale.
