Freeman's

American Indian Arts

Freeman’s schedules American Indian Arts sales in April and November at our Philadelphia-based location and live online auctions. Our team of knowledgeable specialists have a local and national reputation for successful sales of American Indian historical items and artifacts, and are well-versed on the current market conditions which is an essential component to the overall success of these auctions. Included in these sales are items from regions and tribes such as the Northwest coast, woodland, Plains, Sioux, Lakota, Hopi, Navajo, Curis, Zuni, and Apache and Acoma, with materials consisting of ceremonial beads, Kachina dolls, blankets, pottery, and much more.

Freeman’s sets itself apart in the area of American Indian Arts, offering specific items and private collections with attention to exceptional historical accuracy and provenance. The history of ownership in American Indian material is rare and especially significant in this area of collecting, and after passing hands for many generations, often without an accurate paper trail, or lack of one completely, it is often difficult to track a work’s specific lineage.

The ability of Freeman’s to research, confirm and authentic provenance is evidenced in the most recent sale of the Luther R. and Frances T. Zehner Collection. Our American Indian Art specialists carefully and painstakingly identified each object in the collection, and those itemized in the field books, journals, and photographs of the collectors. This significant information was recorded, creating not only an auction catalogue, but a historical reference.

Freeman’s offers American Indian Art in auctions twice a year in April and November within our American Furniture, Folk and Decorative Arts auctions. For more information about buying or selling in an upcoming American furniture, Folk & Decorative Arts auction, please contact one of our specialists to make your appointment for a private and complimentary consultation.
