$600,000 White-Glove Alexander Hamilton Sale and Strong Overall Results Confirm Books and Manuscript’s Market Expertise

Freeman’s Books and Manuscripts department continues to bring excellent results to auction, particularly works of Americana, classic literature, and presidential material. Freeman’s September 23 sale was led by three fine examples of these categories: a $69,300 Thomas Jefferys American Atlas, a $32,760 United States loan-office certificate signed by James Monroe, and a handsome $27,720 copy of James Joyce’s Ulysses.

The department’s white-glove sale of Alexander Hamilton material on October 25 delighted collectors of American history and totaled $600,000 in only 44 lots. The collection of rare and significant Hamilton documents, amassed by John E. Herzog, constituted a deep dive into both the professional and personal life of the Founding Father and eminent American statesman.
