Signed Works by Van Cleef & Arpels and Cartier Elicit Competitive Bidding Wars at Fine Jewelry and Luxury Accessories Auction

Freeman’s October 28 Fine Jewelry and Luxury Accessories auction exceeded its overall pre-sale estimate by 10% after strong buyer interest in signed pieces by well-known houses and makers. Said Head of Sale Kate Della Monica, “Exceptional colored stones ruled the sale, and, as always, name-brand items performed beautifully”—including a $63,000 Van Cleef & Arpels diamond and eighteen karat gold bracelet and a $31,500 Cartier diamond, turquoise, and eighteen karat gold brooch with matching ear clips.

The leading lots were both exquisite rings: a sapphire, diamond, and fourteen karat white gold ring that sold for $119,700 against a $15,000 high estimate, and a color change alexandrite and eighteen karat gold ring that achieved $94,500 against a $20,000 high estimate. Works featuring the timeless diamond solitaire performed well, as did signed pieces by R Simantov, Verdura Regatta, and J.E. Caldwell & Co.

The department already has promising leads for its upcoming Jewelry and Watches auction and invites consignments for its Spring 2022 auction season.
