Freeman’s October 26 Design auction is led by an exceptional “Minguren I” coffee table by George Nakashima, a remarkable piece comprised of a single slab of buckeye maple burl. With more than a dozen works by the famed New Hope, Pennsylvania woodworker, Design offers excellent Nakashima collecting opportunities, from benches and chairs to end tables and cabinets. The sale features important design works by some of the 20th century’s leading designers and houses, including three exquisite window designs created by Tiffany Studios for St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Meriden, Connecticut at the turn of the 20th century. Collectors of British studio pottery will be pleased to find stoneware works by Jennifer Lee, Lucie Rie, and Elizabeth Fritsch; other sculptural highlights include an early wire construction by Harry Bertoia and a selection of ironwork from the Estate of Samuel Yellin.
