On December 9, Freeman’s presents its inaugural sale of The Art of Gathering, bringing more than 100 lots of furniture and decorative and fine arts to market. Held in the midst of the 2022 holiday season, The Art of Gathering celebrates togetherness through its presentation of silver, porcelain, and glass, ideal for hosting and gathering over occasions both big and small. The auction is led by two such objects: an 18th-century Meissen chinoiserie porcelain tea and coffee service, and a striking Victorian sterling silver fourteen-basket epergne created by Francis Boone Thomas in 19th-century London. The Art of Gathering offers collectors a wide range of tablewares, from silver flatware, candlesticks, centerpieces, and tea and coffee services, to modern and contemporary selections, like a rare Seder plate, spice container, and menorahs of various forms by Zelig Segal. Additional offerings include select Chippendale, Federal, and George III furniture items and lush carpets and tapestries, and needlework samplers complete the scene, extending the space of celebration from the dinner table to the entire home.
