Freeman’s May 18 Design auction is led by two remarkable Tiffany Studios rose windows created for St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in West Philadelphia circa 1905. Illustrative of the aesthetic and spiritual impact Tiffany’s art in glass had on their commissioning congregations, the two roses mark a rare appearance on the market. The sale features a wide selection of George Nakashima furniture, including a fine “Frenchman’s Cove II” extension dining table and set of six new chairs, as well as chairs, tables, and benches in the renowned designer’s iconic “Conoid” style. Collectors of the works of George Ohr will be pleased to find more than thirty works by the massively influential pioneer of American ceramics in Design, from vases and vessels to a novelty inkwell and pen tray alongside a mule’s head; the sale also brings to market a selection of ceramics by Gertrud and Otto Natzler from the Collection of Dr. Ellis F. Rubin and Suzanne Borow Rubin. From furniture and cabinetry to design and art objects by 20th-century giants like Harry Bertoia, Freeman’s May 18 sale brings the best of design to market.
