This June, Freeman’s presents Pride of Place: Works from the Estate of Sydney F. Martin, a select 26-lot sale that highlights the passionate collecting activity and discerning eye of Sydney Martin, an avid and early collector of Pennsylvania Impressionists and other Pennsylvania-related works. The June 4 auction is led by Edward Redfield’s Spring Veil, an enormous canvas that represents one of the most powerful springtime scenes ever executed by Redfield, a key member of the New Hope School. The sale’s Pennsylvania Impressionist selection also includes a newly rediscovered painting by Daniel Garber, a quintessential view of Lambertville by Fern Coppedge, a summer Bucks County scene (and rare market appearance) by Morgan Colt, and canvases by George Sotter and John Folinsbee. Pride of Place features seven paintings by William B. T. Trego, including several American Civil War scenes by the Pennsylvania painter best known for his military works. Freeman’s June 4 sale is driven by Martin’s deep sense of loyalty and love for Pennsylvania, and presents a lifetime of devoted collecting from one of Bucks County’s most respected collectors.
