Sale Overview
Freeman’s November 10 American Furniture, Folk and Decorative Arts auction features a fine selection of silver, furniture, paintings, Flags, and objects illustrating the customs, politics, and design sensibilities of early America. The American National Flag Collection of Jeffrey Kenneth Kohn, MD (Part I, Lots 1-50) consists of rare examples from one of the nation’s foremost experts in and dealers of the National Flag. The auction also includes a Private New Jersey Collection of silver by preeminent early American makers such as William Hollingshead, Philip Syng, Jr., and John Coney. Collectors of 18th and early 19th century American furniture will find William & Mary, Queen Anne, Chippendale, Federal, and Classical styles from New England and Pennsylvania-based makers. A number of examples of Chinese Export porcelain punctuate the auction, underscoring increasing cross-continental trade during this time period, and the sale also features multiple 19th-century American School cityscapes, including a number of lithographs and paintings highlighting views of Philadelphia as it launched into large-scale industrialization.
