On December 7, Freeman's will bring to sale a selection of about forty paintings from a private Texas collection. With significant exhibition history attached to most of the works, the collection surveys the various themes associated with American Art and therefore strikes as simply, quintessentially American. From 19th century (realistic and tonalistic) landscapes by George Henry Durrie, Alan Schmid and Bruce Crane, to figure portraits by Samuel S. Carr, and Adam Albright, through Western Art led by Edgar Paxson and Charlie Dye as well as Illustration and Folk Art represented by Grandma Moses and Joseph Leyendecker, the sale promises to be a treasure-trove for collectors.
