Note

Son to Henry Borne, dubbed the "Prince of Enamelers" by John Jope Rogers, Henry Pierce Borne was a formidable enamel painter who trained under his father and worked at the service of Queen Victoria herself and her husband Albert of Saxe-Coburg Gotha.

While the portrait of Charles I is modeled ater Anthony Van Dyck's 1636 full-length portrait of the British King now in the collection of King Charles III of England at Windsor Castle, several versions of the portrait of Maria Henrietta are known, including one in the Royal Trust Collection (inside the Palace of Holyroodhouse's Throne Room), as well as at Althorp, Euston Hall, Broadlands and Castle Howard.
