Provenance: Theodore W. Bean (1833-1891) served in the 17th Pennsylvania Cavalry, Fifth Squadron, on the staff of General John Buford, and later GeneralsTorbet and Merritt in some of the most significant battles of the Civil War including Gettysburg. Upon returning to civilian life, Bean worked as a lawyer in Montgomery County He was a well known speaker, historian of the Civil War and local history and writer. He published The History of Montgomery County Pennsylvania in 1884.
