Roberto Coin was born in 1944 in Venice, Italy, and his early life lead him to a career in the hotel industry. Despite much success in the hotel business, Coin abandoned his career as a hotelier at the age of 32, and decided instead to pursue his passion for jewelry.
The Roberto Coin brand was launched in 1977 in Vicenza, Italy, an area often described as the "City of Gold". Vicenza has had a long-standing reputation as the heart of the 18K gold industry in Italy, and is the world leader of gold jewelry.
Roberto Coin broke ground in the United States in 1996, and currently has storefronts across the globe. However, to this day all Roberto Coin jewelry is designed in Italy, invoking Italian craftsmanship and innovation.
The Roberto Coin signature is a hidden ruby somewhere in each piece, and alludes to piece of Egyptian lore that Coin gravitated toward. It was believed that if a woman's skin touched a ruby, she would immediately be granted love, prosperity, and happiness. The hidden ruby in Coin's jewelry is always set on the inside, so that it is always touched by its wearer.
