Bound in 18th-century blind paneled calf, rebacked in 19th century gilt stamped calf, covers rubbed; 19th century signature in ink partly excised from title-page (negligible loss to printing); armorial bookplate of John Seton Karr of Kippilan (1813-1884) on front paste-down; scattered light foxing; darkening to edges of ads and endpapers. The first account of Virginia written by a Virginian, regarded as the best contemporary record of Virginia's Native American peoples. The plates, depicting Native American life, are reduced copies of those in Harriott's Virginia (1590), and drawn and engraved by the brothers De Bry.
