James Bryce (English, 1838-1922) was an academic, politician, and the British Ambassador to the United States from 1907-1913. Influenced by Alexis de Tocqueville's classic Democracy in America, Bryce's American Commonwealth was a success upon release in it's in depth examination of the various institutions of America government.
