Artist Biography
Born in Altadena, California in 1946, John Cederquist earned a BFA in 1969 and an MFA in crafts in 1971 from California State University at Long Beach. After receiving his MFA, started his own studio before joining the art department faculty at Sadleback College teaching design in 1979. Cederquist is nationally recognized for his trompe-l'œil wood constructions, receiving several National Endownment for the Arts fellowships. Cederqusit was appointed a fellow of the American Craft Council in 2002. Cederquist was appointed professor emeritus at Saddleback in 2008. Now maintaining a studio presence, Cederquist continues to exhibit his work nationally. Moreover, Cederquist's work can be viewed at institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and the Art Insitute of Chicago.
