Attractive partially-printed scalloped ship's passport on vellum (Number One), signed by President Thomas Jefferson ("Th: Jefferson") and Secretary of State James Madison ("James Madison"), for the Brig Juliana, commanded by Abraham Williams; counter-signed by Collector of the Port of Gloucester, Massachusetts, William Rogers; paper seal intact, bottom left. Creasing from original folds. Unexamined out of mat and frame, 23 x 18 1/4 in. (584 x 463 mm).
The Brig Juliana was built in 1804 in Newbury, Massachusetts, weighed 203 tons, was mounted with four guns, and was commanded by Abraham Williams, with a crew of 11 men. A fine example.
