Attractive partially-printed scalloped ship's passport on vellum (Number 25), signed by President James Monroe ("James Monroe") and Secretary of State John Quincy Adams ("John Quincy Adams"), for the Ship Malabar, commanded by Richard Orne; counter-signed by Collector of the Port of Charleston, South Carolina, and future mayor thereof, James R. Pringle ("J.R. Pringle Coll."); paper seal, bottom left, perished. Creasing from original folds; MS. note on verso by an unknown New York port officer, dated August 19, 1824, certifying Josiah Orne as ship's commander. Unexamined out of double-pane glass frame, 16 7/8 x 12 5/8 in. (429 x 321 mm).
The Ship Malabar weighed 355 tons, was mounted with two guns, and was commanded by Richard Orne, with a crew of 15 men.
