Artist Biography
Ron King is an American fiber and textile artist based in Penobscot, Maine. He received his B.S. in Interior Design (1966) from Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan, and his M.F.A. in Fabric Design (1968) from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. After Cranbrook he worked as a textile designer for Jack Larsen, Knoll International, and Isabel Scott, and from 1975 to 1985 served as a professor of Design at the University of Maine, Haystack Mountain School of Craft, Kansas City Art Institute, and Colorado State University. Since 1987 King has been deeply involved in HIV advocacy and gay men's health leadership, including roles at Down East AIDS Network, Ellsworth, Maine, and as Director of the Northern Maine HIV Program at the Regional Medical Center At Lubec, Maine.
