Fred Harman (1902-82) was an American cartoonist, famously known for his Red Ryder comic strip. The comic ran from 1938-65, and was published in over 750 different newspapers.
Ray Remlow Harris was a poet and author whose work was primarily set in the Wild West. His poem, "Nothin' But a Horse" (incorrectily titled by Harman as "Nothin' But a Hoss..."), featured below the painting, was published in numerous newspapers across the country in October of 1936.
