The son of distinguished Confederate Brigadier General John Henry Winder (1800-1865), John Cox Winder (1831-1896) served as a Major in the 2nd Confederate Engineers Company A. He lived most of his life in Raleigh, North Carolina and worked with the Seaboard Air Line Railway. For a discussion of J.C.
