A gold and gemstone hinged bangle bracelet by Karl Stittgen circa 1970. Bangle is constructed in an open design, with varying sizes of pearls, and featuring rubies and pink sapphires on one side, and blue sapphires on the other.

Karl Stittgen

German-born Karl Stittgen immigrated to Vancouver, Canada in 1952, where he began working as a jeweler and watchmaker. A prominent member of the art scene in Vancouver at the time, Stittgen quickly made a name for himself as a visionary jeweler, allowing him to open storefronts in Calgary, New York, and San Francisco.

Stittgen was selected for the Creative Achievement Award of Distinction in Vancouver in 2009 for his "profound and lasting impact on applied art and design in British Columbia."

Stittgen is most notable for his unique designs, utilizing texture to transform metal into exquisite shapes, topped with architectural jewels and fine gemstones.
