With inscription to reverse, "RPP/45 Cold Spring."
L: 42 in., W: 19 1/2 in., H: 45 1/2 in.Provenance: Found in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
This chest of drawers may have belonged to Robert Parker Parrott (1804-1877). Parrott, born in New Hampshire, was a second lieutenant during the Civil War, but he is probably best-known for his invention of the Parrott rifle in 1860. This achievement is credited in part due to Parrott's role as superintendent of the West Point Iron and Cannon Foundry, located at Cold Spring, New York. The inscription on the reverse of this chest, "RPP/45 Cold Spring", suggests Parrott's ownership, and is further supported by the initials "RPP" also found on his invention.
