Note

We wish to thank Nancy Weekly, Burchfield Scholar, Head of Collections & Charles Cary Rumsey Curator at the Burchfield Penney Art Center, Buffalo, New York for her assistance in cataloging this lot. A copy of a research report dated November 11, 2022 compiled by Nancy Weekly will accompany this Lot.

The present watercolor was executed on September 10, 1916, on the same day as September Meadows (Private Collection). Both depict the same expansive landscape, with the difference that September Sunlight focuses on a cornfield in the foreground, looking toward two bare, bright orange trees, rolling fields, and a wide sky.
