NOTE:
Best known for his paintings of seascapes along the New England coast, Richards enjoyed a long and prosperous artistic career. Born in Philadelphia, Richards traveled widely along the coast between New Jersey and Maine before settling upon Newport, Rhode Island for his summer residence. Associated with both the Hudson River School and the American Pre-Raphaelites, Richards was celebrated for his watercolors and oil paintings, rendered with meticulous detail.
