A nice association, from the library of noted New York lawyer, art and book collector and patron, John Quinn (1870-1924). Quinn was one of the foremost patrons of modern art and literature of his day, and often provided financial and legal assistance to various artists. Beginning in August 1911, and continuing for more than ten years, Quinn acted as Conrad's principal literary patron, and in the process acquired nearly all of Conrad's original manuscripts. Conrad's partial manuscript for Nostromo was sold by Quinn in 1923 (Lot 1821) during the liquidation of his library, and was acquired by Dr. A.S.W. Rosenbach. It is now in the Rosenbach Library and Museum in Philadelphia.
