Note

The sitter for this portrait was Dr. Roy Lynde, a country doctor in Ellendale, North Dakota who strongly inspired Dr. D. K. Leiby to pursue a medical career. Dr. Leiby subsequently became a well-known figure in Bucks County, where he treated many of the New Hope artists and also collected their works. This portrait was commissioned directly by Dr. Leiby from Daniel Garber in honor of Dr. Lynde's seventy-sixth birthday on August 31, 1950.
