Rand & Avery on copyright page). 8vo. 456 pp. Illustrated with an engraved frontispiece portrait of Whitman, on light brown background, signed in plate "Schoff" (first state in BAL and Myerson), with original tissue guard. Publisher's orange cloth-covered beveled boards (Myerson's binding C, BAL binding B), stamped in blind on front and rear boards and in gilt along spine, cocked, spine ends lightly frayed; all edges trimmed; grey endpapers; small "withdrawn" ink stamp on front paste-down; small pencil sketch on recto of frontispiece; a few scattered pencil annotations to text.
