MARTHA WALTER (AMERICAN 1875-1976)
AT THE SEASIDE

Oil on panel
7 1/2 x 11 in. (19.1 x 27.9cm)

Provenance: The Estate of Theodore and Aristea S. Halkedis, New York, New York.
NOTE:
Although Theodore Halkedis lived in Manhattan, he was born in Philadelphia and graduated from Pennsylvania State University.
Following service in the United States Army he went on to become a prominent figure in the international shipping business. Together with his wife Aristea, originally of Lowell, Massachusetts, he assembled an impressive art collection with a strong emphasis on antiquities, Egyptology and Orientalist Art. His fine collection of works by Martha Walter, another native Philadelphian, which was somewhat outside the primary focus of his collecting, was perhaps a nod towards his origins.
Other works from the Estate of Theodore & Aristea Halkedis will feature in future auctions at Freeman's.

Sold for $17,500
Estimated at $7,000 - $10,000
