Artist Biography
Born in 1971 in Huntsville, Alabama, Dirk Staschke received his BFA from the University of Montevallo and his MFA from Alfred University, and has taught at Alfred University and New York University. A ceramic artist, Staschke is known for his explorations of Dutch Vanitas still life themes. His opulent, intricate works blur the line between sculpture and painting, deftly using ceramics to create detailed works that are nearly optical illusions. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and is in the collections of several museums in the US and abroad, including the Smithsonian Museum of American Art in Washington, D.C., the Portland Art Museum in Oregon, and the Icheon Museum in South Korea.
