Note
Vermont entered the Union as the 14th state on March 4, 1791 under President Thomas Jefferson. This Flag may have been used in the 1876 Centennial celebrations or the Vermont Statehood Centennial celebration of 1891. The Vermont Centennial celebration was combined with the dedication of the Bennington Battle Monument.
The "Third Maryland Regiment " flag is associated with the American Revolutionary War and was purportedly carried at the Battle of Cowpens in South Carolina by William Batchelor, Third Maryland Regiment, January 17, 1781. The battle marked a turning point in the war.
