Note
Sueharu Fukami was born in Kyoto into a family with strong ceramic connections. His sculptures of high pressure-molded "blades" and "waves" are finished with his signature qingbai blue-green glaze. At the age of twenty, he was invited to show his work at the prestigious Nitten Exhibition. Years later, he won the 1985 Premio Faenza at the annual ceramic art exhibition of Faenza, in Emilia-Romagna, Italy.
Sueharu's elegant wares, where crisp edges are contrasted with subtle curves reminiscent of waves or gently-folded paper, may be found in numerous museums worldwide, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, The Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and the Musee National de Ceramique, France.
