Alexander Johnston, Jr. (Dec. 20, 1815-Oct. 4, 1890) is listed as a member of the Class of 1835 and as a ship-builder in Wiscasset in General Catalogue of Bowdoin College and the Medical School of Maine, 1794-1889, p. 39. Johnston was also known as a surveyor and his surveying compass is currently in the Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments at Harvard University, no. 5203a. He built the Gothic Revival Rosewood Cottage on Mouse Island near Boothbay Harbor, circa 1865.
