Hannah (Saunders) Lewis was the daughter of Joseph Saunders and Hannah (Reeves) Saunders. She married Mordecai Lewis in Philadelphia on January 7, 1773. The engraved monogram, "JSL," may stand for Hannah Lewis' son, Joseph Saunders Lewis, and the inscription on the underside implies that the mug was passed down to a grandchild after her death in 1816.
Maria Sergeant was the daughter of US Congressman Honorable John Sergeant and Margaretta Watmough. Maria married Harrison Smith on June 29, 1854. Smith was the son of John C. Smith and Matilda Wikoff.
