Early blind-paneled dark brown calf, rebacked in modern tan calf, stamped in gilt; with some scattered spotting and a small abrasion, affecting signature mark H1, otherwise generally clean. The author acted as the Czar's physician from 1660 to 1669. He gives a lively account of life at the Russian court and of Russian life, its government and judiciary, its church, music, customs, and the uses of caviar and mushrooms.
