NOTE:
According to the Catalogue Raisonné, the present lot was used as the frontispiece (illustrated in color) of Thomas H. Briggs, Isabel McKinney and Florence Skeffington, Junior High School English, Book II for Eighth Grade, Boston: Ginn & Company, 1926. It is possible that this painting may date to as early as 1921 (presently dated to ca. 1924-1926). It may have originally been done for another use, possibly for a magazine cover, and then sold to Ginn & Company for the cover of their textbook.
