The twelfth and final state of this highly influential and massive map of North America. First published by Bowen & Gibson in 1755, it went through numerous states, each updated to reflect new surveys and the shifting geo-political struggle over the North American continent--from the terms of the peace treaty ending the French and Indian War, to the American Revolution, and its settlement with the 1783 Treaty of Paris, and after. The map is outlined in red, blue, green, and yellow, each representing territory held by the United States, Great Britain, France, and Spain, while within the United States, blue lines extend westward showing southern states's land claims. In the top right, the third article of the Treaty of Paris that ended the American Revolution is printed, detailing American fishing rights around Newfoundland. Interestingly, an inset map in the lower left shows Father Eusebius Francis Kino's explorations in Baja California, which discredited the belief of California as an island.
