Bogardus; three uncredited; three cabinet cards and two silver prints); one silver print of Benjamin Harrison (uncredited); one silver print of Warren G. Harding (uncredited). From the collection of Hungarian-American photojournalist Stefan Lorant, with his credit stamp on verso of several photographs ("Stefan Lorant Collection"). Each photo mounted to board; eight photos with ink inscription on mounting board; five photos with ink inscription on verso.
Stefan Lorant (1901-97) was an Hungarian-born American editor, author, and pioneer in photojournalism, remembered for his pictorial histories of American presidents. Instrumental in defining many of the precepts of modern photojournalism, his editorship of the Munich Illustrated Press magazine served as the model for Life magazine. Following his emigration to the United States in 1939 he published several photographic works on American presidents, including Lincoln, His Life in Photographs, The Life and Times of Theodore Roosevelt, FDR A Pictorial Biography, and The Glorious Burden.
