A Discoverie of Errours in the First Edition of the Catalogue of Nobility...
London: Printed by William Jaggard, 1622. First edition. Folio. (xliv), 717, (2) pp. Profusely illustrated with woodcut coats of arms, as well as woodcut initials and head-pieces. Contemporary speckled brown calf, ruled in blind, light wear to spine ends and corners, boards and extremities lightly rubbed; all edges trimmed; creasing to front and rear endpapers; contemporary signature ("William Gordon 1657") and manuscript on front free endpaper; small loss in bottom corner of title-page, other scattered wear and light soiling to same; armorial book-plate of Sir William Baird of Newbyth on verso of title-page; scattered light spotting and toning to text; 4-inch closed tear in bottom edge pp. 105/106.
First edition of Augustine Vincent's important work on heraldry, famously remembered as the work that delayed by a year the publication of Shakespeare's first folio, as publisher William Jaggard was so busy in making corrections to Vincent's text. Profusely illustrated with woodcut coats of arms, this is a partial reprint of Ralph Brooke's Catalogue of Nobility of 1619.
