Artist Biography
Craftsman and jewelry designer Doug Legenhausen was born in 1945 in Queens, NY. He earned a B.F.A. in 1969 from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a M.F.A. in 1972 from the Rhode Island School of Design. In 1967, he founded his own jewelry design firm, DRL Inc., before moving to Baltimore to work for famed silver company Samuel Kirk & Sons. Legenhausen remained with the company when it merged with The Stieff Co. in 1979 and was a primary designer of Kirk-Stieff’s fine jewelry line, which launched in 1981. He returned to his own company in the 1990s, where he continued to design pieces in gold, silver, and set stones before passing away in 2014.
