Signed as U.S. Grant Brig. Gen. Framed with silver print reproduction of Mathew Brady’s portrait of Grant at Cold Harbor in 1864. To Capt. Henry Walke on destroying the Memphis Clarksville and Louisville Railroad bridge, 11 miles upriver from Fort Henry, “... I would request that you go up with your boat today and take some twenty men that I will furnish to do the job.”.
The battle of Fort Henry was fought on February 6th, 1862 in Donaldson, Middle Tennessee. It was the first important Vic for the Union & for Grant in the Western theatre.
