New York, March 19, 1938. 2 pp. 4to. To theatrical producer George Abbott. Light to moderate horizontal creases along old folds. In green cloth chemise with dark green morocco cover label.
A superb letter, written as Rand was working on her novel "The Fountainhead": Now I'm working on a new novel, a tremendous one, about 400,000 words long and taking in a span of fifteen years, I judge. It's about American architects. I spent over two months this winter, working as a typist in an architect's office without salary, for the experience. Got great material, too..." She also discusses her play "Night of January 16th," her novelette, "Anthem" as well as Abbott's own script for his play, "A Better Day."
In 1940 Abbott produced and directed a stage adaptation of Rand's debut novel, "We the Living" under the title of "The Unconquered", which ran for only five performances.
