Lauren Colavita joined Freeman’s in 2021 as the Fine Art Department’s Associate Specialist in Modern and Contemporary Art. Colavita attended the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, where she was awarded a joint degree in ancient history and the history of art. She went on to complete her master's degree in museum studies at the University of Edinburgh.

Colavita comes to Freeman's through our sister auction house, Lyon & Turnbull, where she was a Junior Specialist in the Paintings department. She has past work experience with international auction houses in New York and London, the National Galleries of Scotland, and the world-renowned Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice.

In Her Own Words ...

 

What part of your job makes you get out of bed and come to work in the morning?

Getting to work hands-on with such incredible artwork. From the research to the physical condition reporting, I love getting to know the stories behind each work consigned to auction.

 

If you could own any object Freeman's has sold, which would it be?

A Lalanne sheep. There is something so whimsical and charming about them. They each seem to have their own personalities! Not to mention the fact that they are also iconic and hold such significance in art history.
