Head of Department, Modern and Contemporary Art
Lisa De Simone is the Head of Department of Modern and Contemporary Art at Freeman's. She joined Freeman's in 2022 following years in the secondary and primary Post-War and Contemporary art markets in London and New York.
De Simone earned a MA in the History of Art at University College London. Upon graduation, she joined Christie's London team, where she worked for a decade. Following her time at Christie's, she collaborated with a team to launch Artnet's online selling platform, which introduced new collecting categories including Urban Art. She returned to London as the Specialist of Contemporary Art at Phillips and launched several emerging artists onto the secondary market and organized selling exhibitions in New York and London.
In the primary market, De Simone was the director of C24 Gallery in New York. There, she organized several groundbreaking exhibitions of contemporary art across mediums and collaborated with Philip Glass and Ali Kazma in anticipation of Kazma's representation of Turkey at the 55th International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia. Most recently, she was the Senior Specialist of Post-War and Contemporary Art at Bonhams in New York, where she spearheaded the record sale of the Grace House mural by Keith Haring. Contemporary art with a strong emphasis on German Post-War, Pop Art, and contemporary photography are a few of her passions.
