The Legacy of Chinese Ink Brush Painting | Main Line Special Evening Event

Freeman's Main Line is pleased to present The Legacy of Chinese Ink Brush Painting, a special evening lecture and demonstration coinciding with the exhibition The Art of GuoHua: An Expression of Traditional Chinese Brush Painting & Calligraphy.

Serving as a major art influence in Eastern Asian, Chinese Ink Brush Painting, or GuoHua, shows its vitality through the transformation of art ideals and new mediums.  While closely associating subject matter with Chinese poetic idealism, the practice itself emphasizes the use of black ink that linearly serve as the basic element of this art form and uses rice paper as a base to create specific visual effects the does not exist in watercolor paper.  Through the evolution of GuoHua, this once “avant garde” style from the 15th century has truly transformed itself in its modern age while still preserving the basis of Chinese culture.

This lecture and demonstration will provide further insight of the history of GuoHua and demonstrate different techniques in various subject matters associated with Chinese ink brush painting.
