Hill House Estate Renovations:

Modernizing and Converting a Historic Main Line Mansion

Built in 1926 by George Wharton Pepper Jr. the Architect/Builder and son of Senator George Wharton Pepper for his parents and their five domestic servants. The house was originally divided almost equally into a formal side and service side. You enter from a 5000 square foot stone walled slate court yard through a front door that opens onto the formal area consisting of a slate foyer; a living room wiht five French curved doors and grand fireplace; a dining room with two identical French doors; grand curved stairs; a powder room and two guest suites. The second floor houses the master suite, chapel, sewing room, sleeping porch, trunk storage and exterior stone staircase.

In 2005, the sellers, along with Mark Stanish Architects, took on the challenge of converting the historic Main Line mansion into a family home. The renovation included total removal and replacement of antiquated plumbing, heating, and electrical as well as the repair and replacement of the roof, windows, and doors. Five additional bedrooms were added with full baths and the kitchen was transofrmed into a space fit for family and entertaining; and two recreation areas as well as the master suite were renovated.
