As we look forward to the upcoming Watches of Distinction auction on April 7 –Freeman 's first ever independent sale of timepieces—there are some notable highlights amongst the nearly 150 already exceptional lots. Up for auction are several desk and travel clocks, a selection of Ladies watches, gent 's pocket watches, and mint and vintage timepieces, dating from the 1940s to the early 2000s, all from renowned watchmakers including Rolex, Cartier, IWC, and Patek Philippe. Here are just a few noteworthy lots.Lot 124: Rolex GMT-Master Ref.1675One of the most iconic Rolex models, the Rolex GMT-Master Ref.1675 was developed in 1954 in cooperation with Pan Am Airlines. It was designed specifically for pilots  who wanted to be able to keep track of multiple time zones during transatlantic flights. The name ‘GMT ' comes from Greenwich Mean Time, which was formerly used as the international civil time standard. The reference was produced with different distinctive characteristics and variations of the dial printing, the shape of the crown guards, bezel insert colors, and the size of the hands. Reference 1675 was produced from 1959 through 1980.This example was produced circa 1965 and with many distinctive characteristics, making this a rare and collectible timepiece. Attractive features such as the gilt dial printing with a chapter ring and the pointed crown guards—known as “El Cornino”—sets this piece a part from later GMT models.  Lot 45: Patek Philippe Chronograph Ref. 533Launched in 1937, the Patek Philippe Chronograph Reference 533 was in production until 1957, and is distinguished from other references of that time by the elegant Calatrava case and flat bezel. This exceptional example produced in 1947 has a silver dial with applied gold stick indices and Roman numerals at 6 and 12, a tachymeter scale, and two subsidiary dials for small seconds and a 30-minute register. It is housed with a Valjoux 23 based caliber 13-130 inside an 18k rose gold snap back case. The very fine and rare reference 533 is recognized as an iconic chronograph and an important staple in any vintage Patek Philippe enthusiast 's collection.Lot 111: Patek Philippe Complication World Time Ref. 5131R-001Patek Philippe continues to lead the way with this state-of-the-art World Time watch. This piece combines an extremely complicated movement, aligning time zones for variations international locales, with the unique beauty of the enamel globe dial that sets it apart from the everyday timepiece. It features a 39.5mm 18k rose gold case and brown crocodile strap with an 18k rose gold deployment buckle. Lot 66: Cartier Ladies Tank Americaine Ref.2489 c. 1995A classic women's timepiece, patterned after the original tank watch designed in the early 20th century. Based on the shape of a military tank, Cartier has since created unique variations such as the Tank Francaise and the Tank Divan, to name a few of the more popular models.
