A 'Wild Cherry' on Top at Freeman's: Results from the June 8 American Art & Pennsylvania Impressi...

Collectors crowded the sale room at Freeman 's American Art & Pennsylvania Impressionists auction on June 8th for a chance to win paintings by American artists such as Glackens and Wyeth as well as Pennsylvania Impressionists. One of Freeman 's most anticipated auctions of the season, bidding throughout the sale was fierce with four of the five top lots all going to local private collections. The 159 lot sale achieved $1.8 million and the Pennsylvania Impressionist market continued to draw buyers. “Wild Cherry” by Daniel Garber achieved the highest price of the day at $235,500.From the American Art section, Andrew Wyeth 's “Grist Mill” achieved the second highest price of the day, bringing $182,500 and artist Martha Walter 's “Beach Scene” was the center of a bidding war before selling for $104,500.  As noted earlier Garber 's “Wild Cherry” commanded the most attention from buyers within the Pennsylvania Impressionist segment of the auction.
