Ben Farina Returns to Freeman's as Asian Arts Department Head
After receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Studio Art from the University of Virginia in 1991, Mr. Farina held the position of Gallery Director here at Freemans from 1992-1997. It is with great excitement that we welcome him back.
Farina brings to Freeman’s 20 years of art auction, appraising and consulting experience. He earned his Masters in Fine and Decorative Arts from Manchester University though the Sotheby’s Institute, London in 1998. Since then he has worked with other notable auction houses and galleries in New York; first at William Doyles Galleries, then as a cataloguer of Decorative Arts at Sothebys.com.
During his eight year tenure at Sotheby’s Mr. Farina researched and catalogued a wide range of rare and important materials for the Arcade Decorative Arts and Fine Arts departments and most notably, for Chinese Works of Art. In 2009 he joined Gurr Johns Inc., specializing in Chinese Works for Art as well as 19thand 20th Century Fine Arts and American & European Furniture & Decorative Arts. He is a member of the Appraisers Association of America (AAA), certified in Chinese Works of Art and General Fine and Decorative Arts.
A native of the Delaware Valley area, Farina is happy to return to his roots, “I am excited to be rejoining the Freeman’s team after 20 years. It is such a rare opportunity to be able to apply all my years of experience in the arena where I first learned my trade.”
